Bike and dance at the Bike to the Beach Bash

Chicago summer is in full swing and outdoor events are abounding, with just over a week remaining until Lollapalooza begins.

This Friday, a slightly different type of event is going down on Montrose Beach. From 4 to 10 p.m., Ra Ra Riot, Best Friends and California Wives will set the soundtrack to your Friday night ball.

Those of you who have experienced the agony of hailing a cab after a show in the city will be as thrilled as I am by this concept of bike valet. A revelation indeed, concert attendees can get silly in the sand without late night transportation woes.

This first annual event appeals to the large biking community of Chicago. Be it a desire to get a little thigh bust, gripes against taxis or parking, emission conscience, or a love for the thrill of riding through the city with an exciting destination, bikers and non alike will gather to celebrate summer in the most appropriate way possible.

Event organizers hope it will inspire Chicagoans to get out on their bikes and have a great time amidst fun company, though biking is optional.

General admission is $20 and VIP tickets are $35, which grants you access to a private beach zone with chairs, umbrellas and a private bar. Landshark Lager is the featured beer of the event and food will be available. All proceeds benefit Intuit, the Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art and Blackstone Bicycle Works.

So head over to 200 W. Montrose Harbor Drive and get down on some indie jams! Bring your bicycle and dancing shoes but leave your worries at home.
