Major Lazer to play Congress Theater

Philly producer and international sensation Diplo worked hard last year. He published a book, introduced the world to Snoop Lion, and even saw his Chicago block party shut down by police.

The ultimate taste maker’s next move? To “Free the Universe.”

Set for release on March 12, the producer’s bouncy globe trekking project “Major Lazer” will release its second record shortly after stopping off at Chicago’s always wild Congress Theater.

If Diplo’s weekly BBC Radio mixes are any indication, the night is set to be a breakneck mix of everything from jamaican jungle beats to hip hop, and surely more of the niche sounds the producer has dug up from around the world.

The Chicago date features support from electronic Canadian poppers Dragonette, best known for the vocal work on Martin Solveig’s painfully catchy 2011 track, “Hello.”

The three piece’s shiny sound looks to serve a stark contrast to the heavily MC’d party that is a Diplo live show.

Evening out the crowded lineup are Richmond, VA and Washington DC’s “Gents and Jawns”, new signees to Diplo’s “Mad Decent” label and serious up and comers in the trap scene.

The March 2 date will mark Major Lazer’s first stop in the city since the act’s appearance at the North Coast Music Festival in September of 2011.
