Each student at DePaul possesses a unique style, but sometimes student styles quickly become on-campus trends. Students start wearing the same clothing, headphones, jewelry and even the same black Hunter rain boots.

One of the latest trends is the infamous canvas spring coat, worn by both men and women at DePaul during this spring season.

Andi Remoquillo wears a green canvas coat with a grey zip-up hoodie, paired with grey harem pants. Her camouflage backpack adds a grungy, urban twist and highlights all the neutral colors in her clothing.

“It’s light and versatile with its cut and color so I can wear it with pretty much anything,” said Remoquillo. “Plus, camo green is the new tan. It’s 100 percent neutral.”

It’s time to swap those black jeans for army green pants or those tan Sperry boat shoes for a green pair.

In his own version of the spring canvas coat in khaki, Oscar Palmer mixes all neutral colors like Remoquillo. He wears a light green V-neck paired with light grey denim, topped with a light-weight zip-up coat.

“I don’t always wear clothes, but when I do, I wear this coat,” Palmer said. “But really, it’s clean, easy to wear and practical for the weather.”

Sydney Greise continues the spring trend, but she adds her own flair. She mixes textures by wearing an army green canvas coat with black leather sleeves. Greise wears a black zip-up hoodie underneath her coat, paired with dark blue denim. 

“It’s the perfect mixture of edgy and chic, yet still really practical for different types of weather,” said Greise.

The canvas coat is urban, light and travel friendly, and it’s also now a DePaul student staple.

Clothing is becoming more and more unisex each year. Menswear clothing is even more popular and acceptable for women to wear, and most women’s trends transform into men’s apparel.

Fashion is evolving, and breaking style boundaries is encouraged. Furthermore, in the 21^st century, clothing doesn’t really go out of style. Hang on to those combat boots or platform heels because we might be wearing them again in 10 years.
