Community’ ends season four with satisfying, cliche conclusion

Ô_

“Community,” one of NBC’s most controversial sitcoms, ends its fourth season with a bang. Community has received mixed reviews all throughout this season. It has had its ups and downs throughout season four, due to departure of creator Dan Harmon. This series was considered one of the best for its first three seasons, but Harmon leaving put a damp on it, but there’s still a loyal fan base whom are opting for a fifth season, but whether or not we’ll receive one is uncertain. This season was intended to contain a full 26 episodes from October to May, but was cut down to 13, beginning at midseason.

For this season’s finale, a lot of it involved referring back to past moments from the previous season, moments such as the case of the smashed yams from “Basic Lupine Urology” and the darkest timeline from “Remedial Chaos Theory.” Jeff Winger is about to graduate from Greendale and become an official lawyer again, working for his old firm, but is hesitant to go back to the life of the cold-blooded person he was as a lawyer when he formed a special bond with his study group over the past four years.

The storyline of this plays out all in Jeff’s mind throughout the finale, bringing the “darkest timeline” to life, where the supposed evil version of Jeff and his study group try to prevent Jeff from staying at Greendale so he could move on with his life as a lawyer, All of this only happens in Jeff’s mind, but takes over the finale and becomes the primary plot of the season itself. Ultimately, Jeff decides to become a lawyer for smaller firms who can’t afford a lawyer. He promises to never break away from his study group, and the season ends.

Community’s season four finale presents a satisfying, albeit clichêÑÔ©, conclusion. It’s been set up where there’s not much to talk about next season. No real cliffhangers were apparent. Pierce Hawthorne suddenly decides he wants to graduate too, and so he does. Actor Chevy Chase, who plays Pierce, had already left the show, so if there were plans for a season five, Chase wouldn’t be in it. It seems likely from the finale that season five won’t be coming this fall, but there’s no certainty on that yet. After all, the producers of Community did coin the phrase and hashtag #sixseasonsandamovie.
