It seems fitting that during a week when the DePaul Blue Demon women’s basketball team (18-6; 10-2 Big East) went 3-0 and vaulted to the top of the Big East standings, that one of their players would earn the Big East Player of the Week designation.

Junior forward Mart’e Grays averaged 17 points and 5.3 rebounds per game this week to secure the first Big East Player of the Week designation of her career. She leads the Blue Demons in scoring (14.8 points per game) and is eighth in the Big East in this category and is also tied for seventh in the conference with a 40.3 percent 3-point field goal percentage.

In the Blue Demons 95-83 victory over then first-place Marquette on Monday evening, Grays dropped 12 points and collected six rebounds. Her marquee performance of the week came on Friday in a 77-67 win over Creighton. Grays led all scorers with 25 points on 10-for-18 from the field to match her career high in points and drained three 3-point field goals to lead the Blue Demons to their second victory of the week. In a dominating 81-47 victory over Providence yesterday, Grays had 14 points on an efficient 5-for-10 from the field and corralled seven rebounds.

Grays and the Blue Demons return to action on Friday when the travel to Indianapolis to battle the Butler Bulldogs.
