Get to know your editors: Zoe Barker

Hi! My name is Zoe Barker. I am a grad student and I am the Online Editor.

I wanted to be the Online Editor because I love working with web platforms and I have a bunch of great ideas to make the site more fun and informative.

When I’m not in school or working on the paper, my hobbies include reading memoirs by female comedians, playing with my cat, being a nerd, and doing tai chi with my mom.

On a Saturday night you’ll find me watching TV shows with my boyfriend and finding interesting beers to review for the craft beer blog that I write for.

My favorite thing about DePaul is the atmosphere that the students, faculty, and staff create with their positive and welcoming attitudes. I love how it has felt like home since I first stepped foot on campus.

The best class I’ve taken so far was either Writing for the DePaulia or Mike Conklin’s Advanced Political Reporting class because Writing for the DePaulia gave me the opportunity to write for every section before coming onboard and helped me to develop varying skills; and Advanced Political Reporting because we got to create and manage our own hyper-local site and filled it with in-depth reporting on the 2010 Chicago municipal elections.

I love eating pad Thai while watching Battlestar Galactica.

I’m secretly obsessed with Instagram and Carey Mulligan’s hair – I’ll be trying to replicate it in a few weeks.

You can’t take me away from my iPad, camera, and external hard drive.

This summer I’ve been running the website, working my other on-campus job in Classroom Technologies and packing up to move back to the suburbs for a year of saving money and commuting.

I can’t wait for the school year to begin because I get to see all my peeps and continue doing one of my favorite things: learning!
