James Murphy DJ set Friday at the Mid

After being involved with ’90s post hardcore band, Pony, Speedking in 1995, and several other side project collaborations, James Murphy is universally known as the man who started one of the most sought-after side projects in the realms of electronic music. Post LCD Soundsystem, Murphy continues to enhance his solo career and has set dates for live DJ performances in Michigan and Chicago.

The musician and producer gained most of his later success with LCD Soundsystem after Sound of Silver was released in 2007. It wasn’t until two years later that Pitchfork named the track, “All My Friends” (off of the 2007 album) the second best song of the decade.  And a week later, the album was ranked above number 20 in the top 200 albums of the 2000’s.

According to a Huffington Post interview, when Murphy was asked about Murphy’s switching gears to DJing in late 2012, he said, “It’s my job now. It really is — people ask me why I’m DJing now, and it’s my only job. I’m building a house. I got to pay bills. We’re long past the time of bands my size retiring. When people sold hundreds of thousands of records, sure, you could retire.”

Take a night off and come out this Friday to see James Murphy work like its his job at Chicago’s very own, the Mid located at 306 N. Halsted St.. Tickets will continue to be on sale until 10 p.m., Friday. Single tickets are close to $30, and can be purchased at the door until 11:30 p.m.
