The Theatre School at DePaul announces 2015-16 season

The Theatre School at DePaul University announced its 2015-16 season.  The performances will see students from The Theatre School being involved in every aspect of the plays, from directing to screenwriting to acting.

“With an emphasis on the concept of learning by doing, The Theatre School’s public performances represent the work of students in their final stages of conservatory training, as they fine-tune their craft for external audiences,” a press release from The Theatre School said.

“Joe Turner’s Come and Gone,” directed by Phyllis E. Griffin, opens Nov. 6 at the Fullerton Stage, and runs through Nov. 15. The work is the second in August Wilson’s “The Pittsburgh Cycle,” and chronicles the lives of African Americans in the 20th century. The season concludes with “The Women Eat Chocolate,” by DePaul playwriting student Caroline Macon, which opens May 20.

Erin Kraft (MFA Directing, Class of 2017) will direct “The Lady from the Sea” by Henrik Ibsen to open the season in the Healy Theatre Oct. 23.  The world premiere of “The Translation of Likes” written by Theatre School alumna Nambi E. Kelley and directed by Ron OJ Parson, opens May 6, 2016.

Chicago Playworks opens this season is “Esperanza Rising,” at the Merle Reskin Theater. The play is based on the young adult novel of the same name, by Pam Muñoz Ryan.

“Throughout its more than 90 year history, the school has educated, trained and inspired students of theatre in a conservatory setting that is rigorous, disciplined, culturally diverse, and that strives for the highest level of professional skill and artistry,” the press release said.
