Ignite Dance Company DePaul’s main goal as a company is to create an environment where people with some dance background can continue their craft, feel good about themselves and have a creative outlet in a fast-paced college environment. Their statement is to, “Embody Confidence Inside and Out”, and they practice attaining that through conversations about body image, open dialogue between the members and unconditional support. On Ignite, there are four teams: contemporary, lyrical, hip-hop and jazz, with a company size of thirteen. Members, who are chosen through an audition process, can be on as many or as little teams as they want. Each team meets once a week and the company meets as a whole on Sundays. Every rehearsal is two hours long, consisting of technique, exercises, stretching, choreography, and improvisation. They compete in one competition a year, perform at events around campus throughout the year and have an annual spring recital. This year’s rectial is on May 4th, so mark your calendars and support student organizations!
