It may be winter, and it may be Russia, but Sochi’s Olympic games are far from being an Arctic tundra.
Sochi is a beach resort town, and temperatures throughout the Olympics have been extremely mild. To combat the forecast, officials have been using snow they manufactured and stockpiled long before the games began. The Associated Press reported that they aren’t too concerned with the balmy conditions because they have this extra snow. However, Friday’s forecast reached a high of 64 degrees, and according to AP, this forced a schedule change for the downhill portion of the men’s super combined.
The athletes needed to compete early in the day before the sun could start melting the snow. Additionally, some athletes have expressed concern about risks posed by the warm temperatures. Here’s a look at the forecast for the next few days of the Winter Games.
