Church of Scientology television station future possibility

The Church of Scientology is working to spread their beliefs by using television, radio, and the Internet, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The five-acre studio property which is located near the church’s headquarters in Hollywood was bought last year by the church for $42 million. The church is planning to use multimedia instead of pamphlets and books written by its founder, L. Ron Hubbard, to spread their message and encourage new members to join.

Karin Pouw, a spokeswoman for Church of Scientology International, told the Chicago Tribune that the date of the launch is yet unknown.

They could even potentially make their own cable channel or receive a license from the Federal Communications Commission to operate a broadcast channel.

Asia Wolska, who is a graduate student at Rush University, is skeptical about Scientology TV.

“It depends on what messages they will be sending,” Wolska said. “Since I’m not familiar with their core beliefs, I don’t know what they stand for. But as someone who cares about faith in society, I hope they have the right intentions.”

Since this new age religion is highly controversial and considered to be a cult by many, this new religious broadcasting might help their image. It might aim to educate the public because many people are only aware of the fact that celebrities such as Tom Cruise are members of this religion.

Now more than ever Scientology needs positive PR because they have been under fire since the recent split of Cruise and Katie Holmes.

Megan Fox, who works at CelebTV believes that the very reason why they got divorced was because “Katie did not want Suri brought up in the Church of Scientology.”

Marty Rathburn, a former auditor within the Church of Scientology, told entertainmentwise.com that Cruise was probably pressured by Scientologists to come to a speedy agreement.

Their divorce was very quick and Holmes got full custody of their daughter. This means that their daughter will no longer be part of the Scientology religion. And as for Holmes, she joined the Catholic faith at the Church of St. Francis Xavier in New York City, E! news reported.
