DePaul men’s basketball could not capture momentum from beating No. 11 Providence on Tuesday as they dropped a clunker to Creighton 88-66 Saturday afternoon.
Creighton’s (15-9, 6-5 Big East) Cole Huff led the game with 28 points while Myke Henry put in another high-scoring performance for DePaul (8-15, 2-9), dropping 22 for the Blue Demons. Billy Garrett Jr. was held scoreless while only picking up two rebounds in 17 minutes.
The Bluejays nursed a small lead in the first half, going up by four or six points at a time and led DePaul 21-17 with just over six minutes to go in the half. From there, however, Creighton went on a 12-0 run to cement themselves in the lead for the remainder of the game. They held a 43-27 lead at the break.
DePaul started to chip away in the second half, going on a run to bring the game within ten with more than 14 minutes to go but they would not get closer than that. Creighton held and then increased their lead throughout the remainder of the second half. They ended up with an 88-66 victory to put them over .500 in the Big East.
DePaul remained in ninth place in the conference with the loss, two games ahead of winless St. John’s. The Blue Demons have a tough opponent this week as they host Big East-leading Villanova on Tuesday.
