Ben Hartman, senior, is a member of DePaul’s Captain’s Council, earning All-Big East Academic Honors in 2008-10. Hartman recorded a 5-5 singles record and 6-5 in doubles this fall season. He reached the second round of the ITA Midwest Regional Main Draw. During his junior year, Hartman won the Ball State Fall Invitational Flight A doubles championship with partner Bartosz Jozwiak.Q: How did you start playing tennis?
A: I was seven. My mom played so I just followed her to the courts.
Q: What has bee the highlight of your career so far?
A: My sophomore year, we beat Louisville. Getting ranked my sophomore year, getting ranked this year.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about playing tennis?
A: Competing, fighting.
Q: What’s your major?
A: Finance.
Q: What’s the best area of your game?
A: I’m pretty quick.
Q: Do you have any plans for after graduation?
A: Travel.I don’t have any plans, but that’s what I want to do.
Q: Where are you planning on traveling? Europe?
A: Everywhere.I haven’t really planned it yet.
Q: What’s your dream job?
A: I like being involved in sports. I think working with a sports team would be fun.
Q: What’s your favorite sport to watch?
A: I like college basketball.
Q: Cubs or Sox?
A: Detroit Tigers.
Q: What’s your favorite TV show?
A: There’s quite a few. “Dexter” is pretty good.
Q: Do you have a favorite book?
A: I really liked “Into the Wild.” And the Harry Potter series.
Q: What’s your favorite music?
A: Hip-hop.
Q: Anyone in particular?
A: Nas.
Q: What was the last movie you saw?
A: “Gulliver’s Travels.”
Q: What do you do in your free time?
A: I like to go out, hang out with friends, watch movies.
Q: Any particular kind of movies?
A: I like chick flicks.
Q: What’s your favorite kind of food?
A: I really like mashed potatoes.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
A: Some small island in some warm water.
Q: What’s the coolest place you’ve ever been to?
A: Croatia is pretty cool because of where it is and all that, but I really thought outside of Seattle, Wash., where Mount Rainier was, was pretty amazing.
