DePaul men’s basketball’s two-game win streak was snapped Saturday with no. 6 ranked Villanova (16-1, 5-0) beating the Blue Demons (10-9, 2-4), 88-62.
Five Wildcats ended up in double figures as Villanova shot 73 percent (19-26) in the second half. James Bell led Villanova with 17 points and eight rebounds.
A series of runs would give Villanova the momentum throughout. After the game was tied at 16 with eight minutes left in the first half, Villanova went on a 9-2 run. Villanova led 31-24 at halftime.
Villanova jumped out to a 17-point lead midway through the second. They would eventually extend their lead to 26 with 38 seconds left.
DePaul struggled to shoot the ball, specifically from beyond the arc. They shot 29 percent (4-14) from three-point range.
Brandon Young led DePaul with 13 points. Four other Blue Demons would score in double figure as well.
Villanova remains undefeated in the Big East. This was the team’s first game in a week. They struggled to shoot the ball in the opening minutes and DePaul took advantage. The Blue Demons took a 10-7 lead with 15:53 left in the first.
It would be the only time the Blue Demons would lead all game.
DePaul next faces off against Xavier on Monday.
