Chicago indie label Hozac Records has released some high quality fuzzed-out rock ‘n roll since forming in 2006. They have also put the same level of quality into their Blackout Fest lineup, which is held annually at the Empty Bottle.
This year’s festival lineup could be its best one yet. Experimental post-punk electronic musician and pioneer, Helios Creed, will be headlining with his legendary band Chrome at the festival Saturday. The band’s work is considered by many music critics to be ahead of its time.
Their sound, a mixture of Stooges punk and hissy tape loops, is often seen as a precursor to what became known as industrial rock. Chrome has influenced countless bands including Nine Inch Nails, Ministry and Butthole Surfers.
Blackout Fest runs until May 19. Single day tickets are available for purchase here. Listen to “Static Gravity” from the band’s amazing 1980 album “Red Exposure” below.
