After the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary, everyone including celebrities, legislators and of course the NRA tried to come up with reasons and their own solutions to stop mass killings from happening.
Celebrities such as Beyonc’ÛΩ, Selena Gomez and John Legend came together for a public service announcement to demand a gun control plan, while Democratic lawmakers blamed violent video games for influencing murders, particularly Adam Lanza.
Over the weekend, prior Reagan speechwriter and Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan said that the blame should be placed on Hollywood because they are promoting a culture of violence.
Also, there were religious people across the nation that claimed that these shootings are taking place because there is no God in schools or in America for that matter.
Not only are some of the reasons completely outrageous but so are the solutions. The NRA proposed having two armed guards in every school in America. For those of you who do not know, there are nearly 100,000 public schools, meaning gun sales would soar in America, and since when did more guns mean equal more safety?
I think the NRA is forgetting what happened in Columbine High School in 1999. Apparently there was an armed veteran of the Sheriff’s office at the school during the shooting. He tried to stop the two murderers but was unable to. So, how would having two officers stop a psychopath?
Also, these shootings are premeditated and well thought out-like in James Holmes’ case.
I don’t think that legislation can stop the killings, if people want to kill they’ll find a way,” said Ania Wlodarczyk, 22, from Lisle, Ill.
That is why we should stop pointing fingers and start educating people on what to do when shootings do occur. Let’s face it-shootings will never stop occurring. There are and always will be people who are evil and want to cause other people pain.
