Villanova raced out to a 12-0 lead against Butler and it was smooth sailing from there on out.
Katerhine Coyer scored 16 points and Alex Louin had 15 as No. 3 seed Villanova set up a third meeting with DePaul women’s basketball Sunday with a 70-49 win over Butler at Allstate Arena.
Villanova (19-12) was in firm control throughout over the Bulldogs, who were without senior forward and leading rebounder ljeoma Unchendu due to a suspension.
The dominant victory was a precursor to a third match up with DePaul. The two teams split the regular season series with Villanova taking the first match 79-76 in an overtime win Jan. 2. DePaul, however, got their revenge in the rematch with a 49-47 win Feb. 1 at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
The two teams face off at 8 p.m. Monday at Allstate Arena.
