Ben Howland, former UCLA coach and potential replacement for Oliver Purnell at DePaul, has signed with Mississippi State, according to multiple reports.
Jeff Goodman of ESPN had multiple sources tell him of the Howland deal. Howland hasn’t coached since 2013 when he was fired by UCLA. He served the past two seasons as a college basketball analyst on television.
There was some speculation that Howland would come to DePaul, given that he was in the mix back in 2010 before Purnell was first hired. Reports also came out afterwards that the DePaul job was “Howland’s to turn down.”
Purnell resigned on March 14 after his fifth season with the Blue Demons.
