Frosty Snowman Pretzels
We tried this adorable recipe for the first time this year, and decided it is definitely one to make again. The faces are just too cute, and the flavor balanced, if you use delicate hands for best results. Our variations to the original recipe are using icing for the nose and chocolate for the mouth. We chose to make heads, though the original recipe from the blog Hungry Happenings includes instructions for full bodies.
1 bag pretzel rings
1 package white candy coating (we use CandiQuik)
1 package mini chocolate chips (you won’t use them all)
A small batch of icing using approx. 2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar and milk
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lay out pretzels on parchment. Using a double boiler or heavy saucepan (or microwave), melt the candy coating. While it is hot, use a spoon to carefully fill the pretzel circles. While the candy coating is still wet, use two mini chocolate chips on each snowman for eyes (try to put them pointed-side down. The original recipe suggests using tweezers for easy and accurate placement). Let the candy coating harden.
When cooled, mix icing for the nose. Start with 2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar, adding a small splash of milk. Combine. (Add more powdered sugar for thicker icing, and more milk for thinner icing. We found that thicker icing will help give the carrot nose better shape.) Use red and yellow food coloring for a carrot orange color. Use a toothpick to dab a nose onto each snowman.
Melt mini chocolate chips in the microwave (for ease). Use a toothpick to make a dotted smile for each snowman.
