This week, the national tour of the beloved, raunchy and hugely impressive musical “Chicago” has inundated the Bank of America Theater. It is raucously fun, technically flawless and packed with immeasurable talent.
In true “Chicago” form, the stage set is sparse, though colorful. The main visual appeal stems from the looming band in the center of the stage, graceful dancers, sparkling costumes and creative lighting. Nothing more or less is needed.
The cast of this national tour is incredible in its entirety; it is nearly impossible to distinguish standout performances because they are all so technically and intuitively sound. The show’s darkly comical heroines, Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart, taken on by Terra C. MacLeod and Bianca Marroquin, respectively, are mesmerizing. Both actresses are Broadway veterans in their roles and while it is apparent that they know them like the backs of their hands, there is an energy behind their portrayals that drives the show.
