China Threatt is a 5’9″ senior guard from Auburn Hills, Mich., where she attended Avondale High School. She has played in 24 of DePaul’s 25 games coming off the bench this season and currently averages 3.3 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. Threatt returned from a head injury during their Jan. 5 home win versus Providence. As a junior, Threatt was named Big East Sixth Man of the Year. After playing 26 games in her sophomore season (2007-08), Threatt tore the ACL in her right knee, ending her season. Q: How did you get started playing basketball?
A: When I was younger, with my older brothers, I used to go to the park and play with them all the time.
Q: Why did you pick DePaul?
A: Because it was closer to home. I liked the style of play. And I like Coach Bruno.
Q: Do you have any pregame rituals?
A: Yeah. Well one, I like, I eat cereal, like Fruity Pebbles all the time and I play Call of Duty World at War and Black Ops.
Q: What is the highlight of your career so far?
A: Beating Stanford I think has to be the biggest highlight of my career.
Q: Any post-graduation plans?
A: Right now, I’m thinking about going to the Navy.
Q: What’s your dream job?
A: To be a federal agent or a U.S. Marshal.
Q: Do people mispronounce your last name a lot (her last name is pronounced “threet”)?
A: Yes.
Q: Do people ever ask about your name?
A: Yes. Like, “Who named me? Why did they name me that?”
Q: Who were you named after?
A: My mom said she was still in shock that she was having another kid, me. So she couldn’t name me, so both my aunts gave me my middle name and my first name.
Q: Favorite sport to watch?
A: I like all sports, but my favorite has to be a tie out of college football and [professional] basketball.
Q: Favorite team?
A: My favorite team for NBA basketball is the Lakers and college football I like the Spartans, Michigan State.
Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
A: Fiji Island.
Q: Where’s the coolest place you’ve ever been?
A: To France. To Monaco and Nice in France.
Q: Favorite music?
A: Rap.
Q: Favorite TV show?
A: Phineas and Ferb.
Q: Favorite place to eat?
A: P.F. Changs.
Q: What is the most recent movie you saw?
A: “Black Swan.”
Q: Did you like it?
A: It was different. It was crazy. I couldn’t really, I had to watch it again to really get it. I couldn’t get it the first time I watched it.
Q: Do you have any hobbies outside of basketball?
A: Shop, I like to shop.
