Police have charged a man and a woman in the attack of a DePaul freshman on the Blue Line last month.
According to ABC7 Chicago, 25-year-old Dwayne Mills and 18-year-old Chitonia Shorter each face one felony count of robbery.
Freshman health sciences student Jessica Hughes was attacked on her way home from a morning class in Lincoln Park on the Blue Line April 28 as two offenders tried to rob her. The man attempted to grab her iPhone, and punched her and bit her hand, according to a CPD community alert. At least two onlookers failed to intervene, she said.
“When I was being attacked there were other people who did nothing,” she said the following day. “It’s upsetting.”

One of the onlookers on the train car could have intervened. However, handguns are illegal in the city of Chicago, so effectively only criminals have them. Black thugs murder people with handguns every day in Chicago, so I can understand why someone might be afraid to jump in to defend the victim

Just wanted to make sure everyone is aware that this is what it feels like to actually feel unsafe due to your race.

White folks are attacked for their race in the United States, and I agree that it is good to make others aware of these facts.

I’m glad these worthless thugs were caught. How did detectives solve the case?

Cta captured good pics of them. They probably returned to a cta location and where noticed. Probably and specifically, they returned to the station they first entered through to began the trip which lead up to this assault. Otherwise, they turned themselves in? Don’t know how else they’d have been found unless it was via cta cameras/employees.
