Minnesota native, Samantha Morgan, is a junior at DePaul and plays first base on DePaul’s softball team. Morgan was named to the Big East All-American Team her freshman and sophomore seasons. With 16 at-bats so far, Morgan is batting .125 and has tallied one run, two hits, a triple and a homerun, in addition to three RBI.Q: How long have you been playing softball?
A: Since I was four.
Q: Why did you choose DePaul?
A: It was a good school for my major in communication and the softball program was top 25 in the country. I thought it was a good mix between academics and athletics.
Q: What is your favorite thing about DePaul?
A: How it’s in the city and how liberal the city is.
Q: How do you like living in Chicago versus Minnesota?
A: I like it a lot more. It’s a big change but I like the city atmosphere.
Q: What is your favorite thing to do in Chicago?
A: Hanging out with friends and having fun.
Q: What is the best part about being on the softball team?
A: Being able to compete at a high level and being around the girls on the team.
Q: What is the hardest thing about being a student athlete?
A: Time management. When you travel every weekend it’s hard to get your studies in, but we have to.
Q: What have been your worst softball moments?
A: Not doing well and not performing to my full ability in the games.
Q: What is your biggest accomplishment?
A: Overcoming four knee surgeries and working through it to be able to play.
Q: Who is your biggest role model?
A: My mom.
Q: What kind of music do you like? Who is your favorite artist?
A: I like all different kinds of music, but country is my favorite and I love Carrie Underwood.
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: “Boondock Saints.”
Q: What are your hobbies outside of softball and school?
A: Friends, playing basketball and shooting around, snuggling with my cat Cheeto, and film editing.
