Eller and Mada leap, toss their way to Big East Weekly Honors
School record performances in Florida last weekend earned Blue Demon track and field athletes Brian Mada and Emily Eller Big East Field Athletes of the Week honors the conference announced today.
Eller muscled the shot put out to a distance of 14.43 meters to break her own school record in the event. The effort landed her in second place out of 24 athletes last Saturday at the University of Northern Florida Spring Break Invitational. This mark is tied for longest in the conference during this very young outdoor season.
Mada’s school record-setting leap of 15.69 meters in the triple jump at the UNF Spring Invitational is his latest accomplishment in a track and field career laced in success. That leap won him the triple jump at that meet, and he continued his winning ways in the long jump with a leap of 7.44 meters. Mada is a five-time Big East champion in the triple jump and has won a conference championship in the long jump as well. Between the two events, Mada has recorded six straight first place finishes this season and leads the Big East in both events. His mark in the triple jump is also the third best in the country this outdoor season.
Mada, Eller, and the rest of the Blue Demon track and field team return to action on April 7 when they head to Waco, Texas for the Baylor Invitational.
