Small fire caused evacuation at DePaul’s Loop campus

A small trash fire on the third floor of 55 E. Jackson caused an evacuation around 4:40 p.m. this evening on DePaul’s Loop Campus, according to Chicago Fire Department Media.

Two witnesses said they smelled smoke while evacuating down the stairs of the building. More than six fire trucks and engines filled the intersection while police blocked traffic on Jackson between State Street and Michigan Avenue.

DePaul rents office space on several upper floors of the building for Academic Affairs, Human Resources, Enrollment Management and Marketing and other administrative offices.

There were no injuries reported and the building was opened again around 5:20 p.m.
