The DePaul Blue Demons won against the Providence Friars 62-56. The big three on the Blue Demons — Jorie Allen, Taylor Johnson-Matthews and Meg Newman — had a combined 46 points. 13 of Allen’s points were free throws — she had six points on top of the 13 made free-throws. The Blue Demons held the Friars to 25 points and 28% shooting in the second half. DePaul had 12 steals and had 14 fast break points. 

“I wish we would have gotten a couple more [charges],” Jorie Allen said. “In the first half I was a little frustrated some didn’t go our way. We got the charge club, coach Jill got the charge club, you have to get three charges to get into the charge club. It’s being willing to sacrifice your body, being in the right place at the right moment and that’s commitment to our team.”

“Just seeing that I’m open,” Taylor Johnson-Matthews said. “The spacing on the court requires everybody kind of type, you know?”

“I’m not surprised about the way Taylor and Meg are playing,” Jorie Allen said. “I’m really proud of them for staying the course and continuing to lean into what coach Jill has been preaching to us. We do what we gotta do, we gotta defend and rebound.”

“A true fan always supports their team,” Jill Pizzotti said on fans saying they give up on DePaul basketball. “They try to watch the team grow and their support in the stands really matters. … They’re going to miss out if they don’t continue to stay and support men’s programs, women’s programs, all of our sport programs. We’re working hard at DePaul to be great.”

The Blue Demons made 17 points in the quarter, while the Friars made nine points. DePaul has attempted more shots (13 of 42) than Providence (11 of 30).

While DePaul is ahead, Providence has made 37% of their field goals compared to DePaul’s 32%. Providence scored 20 points in the second quarter, compared to DePaul’s 13 points.
