Chicago is getting cold, but the festival season is coming! It’s time to look back in the past, and this week’s track should be a flashback to more than a few. “Galvanize” is a piece by one of the early electronic music acts, The Chemical Brothers.
Originating in Manchester in 1991, they are some of the pioneers of Break Beat (along with The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, and The Crystal Method). Famous for their track, “Black Rockin’ Beats” in 1997, their discography has been growing ever since.
The sound of the turntable stopping, the analog bass, and the repeating beat that keeps breaking in smaller intervals create their unique musical “feel”. Their last appearance in Chicago was at the first North Coast Music Festival! Both Ed Simons and Tom Rowlands ended the night with a blast, and some “Black Rockin’ Beats.”
Considered pioneers of electronic by many, they created a style of music that is flourishing in our time. Listen to their track and remember the simple, analog ways of the ever-evolving genre of electronica.
