Barack Obama was re-elected as president of the United States after securing critical swing state Ohio, which put him over the needed 270 electoral votes.
Although initially neck-and-neck, Obama secured three other swing states and pulled ahead to win 303 electoral votes over his opponent Gov. Mitt Romney, who won 203 electoral votes. For a while Romney lead Obama in the popular vote, but he rose to 49.5 percent over Romney’s 49.1 percent.
