Davey Hines is a DePaul freshman and a fashion entrepreneur. His insanely popular and perfectly priced clothing line for men and women, Lead The Revolution, is a massive hit amongst Chicago high schoolers and his take on vintage NBA and NFL style logos with his brand’s name translates well into the current revival of the graphic tee trend.
While watching a documentary on Fidel Castro, he was inspired by the words “lead the revolution,” a phrase that meant strength and passion and motivated him to start designing a clothing line that would not only be accessible to men and women his own age, but would also support his free-spirited message. The result was easy mix-and-match urban wear with “punchy” colors, the logo (Lead The Revolution) and his catchy and cool slogan “Too Ruthless.”
“Lead The Revolution is my way of telling the youth to do what you want, and be your own person – be the one to begin your dream, instead of waiting for a handout,” said Hines.
This message is certainly relatable to the ambitious and goal-oriented DePaul crowd that Hines hopes to cater to with the re-launch of his brand – featuring the familiar faces of DePaul students sporting his logoed shirts, hoodies, tanks and sweaters around the city. Although “Lead the Revolution” does have a Twitter, (@LTRChicago) and an Instagram (@LTRclothing), Hines’ line is mainly discovered through word of mouth. He hopes that hype on the clothes from the fashionable and trendsetting DePaul crowd will spark a chain reaction with students from the surrounding universities.
His future goal for “Lead the Revolution” is to open a store and hopefully many more. As a successful designer, Hines’ advice to other aspiring designers is to “go for it. Take the risk of being a failure, because at least you know you didn’t pass up a great chance to do something you love”.
