Good Day DePaul is entering a new era under the guidance of Sean Keenehan, the show’s interim adviser following Rick Brown’s retirement last spring. He is eager to continue Good Day DePaul’s history of producing quality news and successful journalists.
Keenehan said he was impressed by the motivation and commitment of the students in his class.
“I’m very fortunate to have this kind of all-star team,” Keenehan said.
Keenehan has worked at WTTW, Chicago’s PBS station, as well as at CNBC as a producer. He taught multimedia journalism and digital media classes at Loyola University Chicago for the last four years. He hopes to translate these experiences into his work with students.
Keenehan and students have met about how they can “build upon the legacy of Good Day DePaul” while also expanding opportunities for students to produce news packages.
“We want to take this show to the next level,” Keenehan said.
Good Day DePaul’s teaching assistant, Bing Wang, said that episodes may remain similar to previous episodes for now, but there are changes on the horizon.
“We have talked about adding a dedicated sports anchor segment to talk about not only DePaul but also Chicago sports,” Wang said.

Francesca Corona, a DePaul senior and Good Day DePaul student, thinks that Keenehan brings a fresh eye to the student media group by creating a collaborative environment in pitch meetings, where they discuss story ideas.
“Just in the few classes we’ve had so far, it’s really felt like a newsroom,” Corona said. “We are pitching ideas and we’re talking to each other and collaborating.”
Traditionally, students would take Writing for Broadcast, Television News I and then Reporting for Good Day DePaul. Many students who work for Good Day DePaul get jobs immediately after graduation. Corona credits this success to Rick Brown and his legacy, which Keenehan wants to build upon.

“I’m just a huge advocate for being as involved as you can be as a student to gain those real-life experiences before you graduate,” Keenehan said. “It’s so important to have an ear to the ground on campus to know the issues that DePaul students care about.”
Corona wants to expand the possibilities for Good Day DePaul’s collaboration with other student media outlets.
“There are so many possibilities of coming together and working together to make student media stronger here,” Corona said. “Our new professor really wants that as well.”
Good Day DePaul’s first broadcast of the quarter is expected to release on Tuesday, Sept. 30.
“It’s super important that DePaul gives us the voice to share these stories,” Corona said.
