Junior guard Kate Novik was named to the All-Big East second team following her first season as a Blue Demon, the conference announced on Thursday.
Joining the team after two seasons at Morehead State, Novik led DePaul in points per game (12.1), rebounds per game (6.5), assists per game (3.6) and blocks per game (0.7) while playing all but one of the team’s 31 total regular season contests.
Novik finished the regular season as one of three Big East players to average 12 or more points and 3.5 or more assists per game.
In DePaul’s Dec. 11 win over UMass-Lowell, Novik became the first and only Big East player to record a triple-double this season, doing so with a final statline of 12 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.
“I really didn’t focus on triple-double,” Novik said after recording the eighth triple-double in program history during the 78-48 victory. “We practiced really hard to get this win, and I’m happy my teammates make my assists and help me to play harder every game. In the third quarter, coaches and players told me to offensive rebound more because I already had 10 assists.”
Novik’s season-high scoring performance came against Providence, the same team that DePaul will face in the opening round of the conference tournament, when she dropped 23 points with a 57.1% shooting average on Feb. 18. The game was the second time she scored 20 or more points in an eight day span, joining her 20-point performance against St. John’s on Feb. 10.
In the team’s 76-67 victory over Xavier on Feb. 22, Novik’s 16 points were enough to help her eclipse the 1,000 point milestone over her collegiate career.
“It wasn’t my goal to reach 1,000 points, the goal was to win,” Novik said following the game. “My coaches, they push me hard every practice. My teammates support me and they know what I am capable to do.”
With her nomination, Novik keeps alive a streak of Blue Demon All-Big East nods through the 2020s that includes Sonya Morris (‘20, ‘21, ‘22), Chante Stonewall (‘20), Kelly Campbell (‘20), Lexi Held (‘21, ‘22), Aneesah Morrow (‘22, ‘23), Darrione Rogers (‘23), Anaya Peoples (‘24) and Jorie Allen (‘25).
Novik’s season-long award is accompanied by three separate weekly Big East Honor Rolls nods, the most recent of which came on Feb. 23 after holding a two-game average of 19.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game.
Novik and the Blue Demons will take the court next during the opening round of the Big East tournament in Uncasville, Connecticut on March 6.
