DePaul has been picked as the preseason Big East favorite in women’s basketball for the third consecutive year.
The Blue Demons are reigning back-to-back Big East champions, and sport 11 returning players. Seniors Megan Podkowa and Chanise Jenkins lead coach Doug Bruno’s squad, along with junior Jessica January. Podkowa and Jenkins were selected to the preseason All-Big East Team.
DePaul’s dominance is fueled by their fast-paced offense that ranks among the best in Big East history in points scored. Last season, DePaul set Big East records for field goals attempted, three pointers attempted, and three pointers made.
Podkowa and Jenkins set the tone for the Blue Demons offense, as both of them were among the leaders in the Big East in three point percentage, and three pointers made. Podkowa also is the current Big East leader in rebounds.
Doug Bruno has led the Blue Demons to 13 consecutive NCAA Tournament births, a streak matched only by powerhouses Uconn, Duke, Stanford, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Tennessee.
