DePaul men’s basketball acquired sophomore guard Max Strus, a transfer from Division II Lewis University on Friday.
Strus dominated competition at the Division II level. He averaged 20.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, leading the Flyers in all three categories this year. He also netted 52 points in against Northwood University this November. On that night, he hit 12 threes while only missing four total shots.
His efforts this past year earned him a spot on the D2 All-American team. After sitting out the upcoming 2016-2017 season, Strus will have two years of eligibility left.
Strus already has connections to DePaul. His mother, Debbie Strus (then Brinkman), was recruited by Doug Bruno to play basketball in the 70s. She played both basketball and volleyball during her four years at DePaul, earning her a spot in the DePaul Hall of Fame in 2013.
Strus is also a graduate of nearby Amos Alonzo Stagg High School. Fortunately for the Blue Demons, he wanted to stay near home. Before committing to DePaul, Strus received offers Xavier and Toledo, and interest from Louisville, Michigan and Wisconsin.
