Raymond Doby, a three-star power forward from Saint Louis, Missouri, has reclassified and will not attend DePaul University this year, the University announced in a press release.

Doby will instead enroll at a prep school, becoming the fifth recruit to sign a letter of intent to end up opting not to attend DePaul under head coach Oliver Purnell’s four-year tenure.

“Raymond won’t be joining our program this season,” said head coach Oliver Purnell. “As he continues to develop academically and athletically we will support him as much as we can.”

Doby signed with the program last December as part of the spring signing class after transferring high schools his senior year. He averaged 10.7 points last season at Montrose Christian Academy, where he helped lead the team to a 20-5 record. He had also played on the AAU circuit on Mac Irvin Fire with current Blue Demon sophomores Billy Garrett Jr. and Tommy Hamilton IV.

The 6’7″ forward played at Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis prior to his final prep season at Montrose Christian.

The loss of Doby for this season leaves DePaul without a player signed from the high school class of 2014. The Blue Demons did add three players for the upcoming season on junior college transfers, Darrick Wood, Rashaun Stimage and Aaron Simpson, but will not have any freshmen on the roster.

This is the second player the Blue Demons have lost this summer after fellow forward DeJaun Marrero transferred to Chipola College in July. This leaves the Blue Demons with only six forwards for the 2014-2015 season. They also lost combo guard Jon Davis this past March when he reclassified to attend prep school, just as Doby has decided to do.
