Brandon Cyrus to transfer from DePaul

Sophomore guard Brandon Cyrus announced in a tweet Monday evening he is transferring from DePaul after two seasons with the program.

“I would like to thank DePaul University, coach Leitao, staff, and fans for giving me the opportunity to compete as a student athlete these last two years,” Cyrus said. “After much thought and consideration from my family, I have decided to transfer and explore other opportunities.”
Cyrus started 23 of 31 games a year ago and averaged 7.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. As a freshman, Cyrus also started all 32 games averaging 6.3 points per game in just over 26 minutes.
The sophomore guard was one of the Blue Demons better perimeter defenders and improved offensively as the year went along. Cyrus scored a career-high 20 points against No. 3 Xavier in DePaul’s final home game of the season.
Per NCAA rules, Cyrus will have to sit out next season before returning for the 2019-20 season where he will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Cyrus also becomes the eighth player to transfer in Leitao’s second stint with the Blue Demons that began in 2015.

Emblematic of depaul basketball…i would bury my head in the sand if i was the AD or HC, You have players quitting on you. How do you expect alumni or fans to have faith in you when your own players can’t even buy in to your system? Microcosm for things to come— writings on the wall— just resign already over sheer embarrassment and pure incompetence. who elected this ad and hc?!?! as far as i’m concerned, they could f*ck up a two car funeral.

Before I graduated I was pumped for the new stadium. Easier to get to and thought maybe we’d bring back some flair, was definitely sipping the kool-aid . As an alum I’d love to get season tickets but it’s hard to spend money when they just continually throw garbage out there. Nothing against the players, its just how do we rehire an old coach. Sounds pretty lazy in my opinion. Have a vision! Maybe get a younger guy, someone connected to the city. AAU coach, top high school coach who knows. This city had such great teams a while back, and we still have great talent, but we’re just letting it leave. Open the pocket books for once and maybe get someone good who will at least give the alum and current students hope, compared to no hope right now. It’s comical that tax payers put 82mil towards that stadium and Depaul cant afford to pay a coach a whopping 3 mil a year??? But a college who has half of Depauls endowment (Wichita State) can. Quit being a laughing stock! Wish I had Jean Lenti Ponsetto job cause I’d do it for a lot less…… 16 years!!!! Time for someone new

The team has become the laughingstock of the Big East and the country when it comes to basketball. I don`t think any team can match the futility for the last ELEVEN years! You can put it in INK that De Paul will finish last in the Big East again in 2018-2019. JPL and Leaito must go. Knowing the way things are with the administration, they will say and do nothing and just accept their miserable fate.

I truly wish Cyrus the best of luck as he explores his potential while looking at the many offers which will more than likely be presented to him for the 2019-2020. That being said, I am very worried about the future of DePaul basketball as well as what it it will mean for the futures of the players as well. I have very much enjoyed watching every game this season as I was able to see just how skilled of players we are lucky to have on this team. I believe that if we find the right leadership from individuals who are invested in and are able to bring a new and fresh energy to the program, that we will be able to create a name for ourselves once more. I have great faith in and hope for the DePaul Men’s Basketball Program so long as we best utilize the talent we have while restoring the once great program to it former glory with leadership who is not afraid to believe in u

It makes no sense to voice your opinion. This AD for some reason is not being held accountable for anything. What AD do you know can rehire a loosing coach and get away with it…’Cause she feels she can do what she wants’ I will not attend another game or nor search for Depaul on TV when I can do something better like…Look at Loyola basketball…I have finally given up on Depaul..why doesnt she just quit. She will give big Dave a two year extension…and after another epic failure..she will rehire Purnell…what a joke…

True Blue Demon Fan!
Coming from East Chiicago, Indiana, DePaul Basketball WAS all I dreamed of! When that dream passed, I never stopped being a fan no matter where in the world I lived. But to see were the program is now is sickening! The only reason anyone even know who DePaul is was due to a incredible coach at a incredible time, with incredible LOCAL talent. Which we can’t get anymore nor inspire to come to DePaul University. Times change, yes they do. I cannot understand why in 14 years not one prior player or successful assistant has been given a opportunity to coach at DePaul. Mark Aguirre, most celebrated, cant even be welcomed. This atheletic director may come from a blood line of lineage in the sport, but she has left the leadership unattended on the whole. I believe its time for the AD to be removed, and if she cared would step down. Its time for Leito to move on to a place were he can be successful. Its not at DePaul. We need someone Local for ONCE! PLEASE! with sugar on top!

Brandon Cyrus it the 8th (yes, 8th!) player to transfer in Dave Leitao’s 3-year tenure. . Why should we “be patient” when all of Dave Leitao’s players are transferring?
