Casati honored as athlete of the week
Spearheading a 2-0 week for the DePaul Blue Demon men’s tennis team has earned DePaul sophomore Christopher Casati the first Big East Athlete of the Week accolade of his collegiate career.
With the score knotted at three apiece against Butler University last Friday, the Deerfield, Ill. native squeaked out a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory in the last match of the day to push the Blue Demons to a 4-3 victory which marked their second conference triumph of the season. In conjunction with teammate Luuk Wassenaar, Casati also won a doubles match 6-4 that same day.
On Saturday against New Mexico State, Casati won his match 7-5, 7-6 to improve his singles record to 15-12 overall this season (10-7 in the dual match portion of the season). The Blue Demons won 4-1 avenging a previous loss to New Mexico State in early March.
The Blue Demons return to action on Saturday at 3:15 p.m. when they welcome Marquette into Chicago for the regular-season finale. The Blue Demons sport a 14-9 record with one match to go and have the fourth-highest overall winning percentage out of teams in the Big East Conference this season.
