DePaul freshman Henry Larkin runs in the 4×100-dash last week in Randell Island, N.Y. Larkin will race in the NCAA West Preliminaries this week in Sacramento, California.

Track and Field

Henry Larkin helped continued his  impressive freshman season by advancing to the quaterfinals at the NCAA West Preliminaries in Sacramento, California. Larkin competed in the 400-meter dash on Wednesday and finished with a time of 46.76, coming close to his personal best and school record of 46.46. 

Three other Blue Demons particapted in the event, but failed to move on after the first day: sophomore Jade Gates, Kiersten Walker and senior Caroline Muller. Gates her finished season in the hammer throw with a distance of 56.09 meters. 

Walker finished off her second season at DePaul in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.55. She qualifed for the event after posting a personal best 53.88 and a second place finish at the Big East championships on May 11. 

Muller competed in the high jump and earned a no-mark in the competiton, but hold the school record for high jump with a 1.74-meter mark that she at the first outdoor meet this season. 

 

Men’s Basketball

Incoming DePaul freshman Romeo Weems is one of 34 players selected to travel to Colorado Springs in June for a training camp with the USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Cup team The roster will be cut down to 12 players for the U19 World Cup in Greece  that takes places from June 29- July 7. 

Weems has won two gold medals with USA Basketball in the 2017 FIBA Americas U16 Championship and 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup. Weems started all seven games at the U17 World Cup, averaging 8.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game to help USA to a gold medal. In 2017, he averaged 8.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game enroute to a 5-0 record and another gold medal. 

The Chesterfield, Michigan native finished his senior season off at New Haven High School by averaging 27.9 points, 11.4 rebounds and 4.2 steals per game. Weems is part of the talented incoming recruiting class, and is one of four four-star recruits joining DePaul next season. 

 

Women’s Basketball

DePaul will open the 2019 Preseason Women’s National Invitational (WNIT) facing Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 8 at McGrath-Phillips Arena. 

The Blue Demons are part of the 16-team tournament and is one of the marquee schools particpating, alongside Oregon State, Missouri State, who beat DePaul in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament, and Oklahoma. 

In the WNIT format, every team is guaranteed to play at least three games because of two consolation rounds. Round one will be played on Nov. 8-9, the quaterfinals taking place on Nov. 10-11 and the semifinals  take place on Nov. 14. The title game is scheduled for Nov. 17 and will be televised on the CBS Sports Network. 

Head coach Doug Bruno will be going into his 34th season at DePaul and is looking to make an 18th straight NCAA Tournament appereance.
