Chante Stonewall had 24 points as Lexi Held, Deja Church and Sonya Morris all scored in double figures to push DePaul over Xavier on Friday night. The Blue Demons improved to 16-2 and 6-0 in conference play after the 91-68 win. Xavier drops to 2-15 and 1-6 in conference play.

The first quarter saw a slow start for both teams as the score was just 9-6 at the first media timeout. DePaul stormed out to a 17-8 lead fueled by a balanced scoring effort. Xavier was able to battle back and cut the lead back down to a one-score game. The Blue Demons went deep into their roster with Maya Stovall making a comeback along with showings from Kiara Dallmann and Dee Bekelja.

Going into the second quarter, the Blue Demons led just 20-16.

In the second quarter, the Blue Demons were able to take off. Chante Stonewall, Lexi Held and Sonya Morris were able to get things rolling offensively. A Stonewall bucket put the Blue Demons up 29-18. Just a minute later, Held hit a three to make it 32-18 in just over two minutes of play in the quarter.

Held would be the first Blue Demon to reach double-figures as the balanced attack saw 11 first-half points from Held and 12 from Deja Church. At halftime, DePaul lead 47-33. The Blue Demons shot 47 percent from deep in the first twenty minutes.

Church’s efficiency was huge as the junior transfer had 14 points on just four field-goal attempts early in the third quarter. Church got to the free-throw line, hit layups and hit threes.

The Blue Demons would extend their second-half lead to 55-40. Ten different players appeared for DePaul before the sixth minute in the third quarter. That depth has been a large part of DePaul’s success in the Big East.

DePaul rolled into the fourth quarter with a 68-57 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Blue Demons came out on fire. An 11-4 run to open the quarter had the visitors up 79-61 putting them comfortably ahead with six minutes to play. From there, it was business as usual for Doug Bruno’s squad.

The Blue Demons will turn their attention to a match against Butler on Sunday in Indianapolis.
