Billy Garrett Jr. and Jessica January were named Big East rookie of the week Monday for men and women’s basketball.
Garrett picked up his fifth weekly honor, leading all freshmen in the Big East to date and putting him in prime position to earn Big East Rookie of the Year. Garrett’s recent week had him averaging 21.5 points and 3.5 assists against Xavier and Marquette.
Garrett is averaging 12.3 points and 3.2 assists per game this season. He leads the Big East in both categories for rookies.
January earned her second rookie of the week. She averaged 15 points, 2.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds in games against Marquette and Butler. She has had a key role coming off the bench this season for DePaul.
January is 9.2 points, 2.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game in 27 games.
