Desire2Learn, the learning management system utilized by DePaul University began experiencing an error, on Friday evening, that has caused fall quarter courses and all assignments and notifications associated with them to disappear from students’ course dashboards.
Serving as the primary platform for students to access course information and class assignments, D2L’s system error has left students without a way to access their coursework..
A system notification on D2L’s homepage currently reads “An error occurred with our 7pm feed which has resulted in courses disappearing from the My Courses Widget. D2L staff are working to resolve the issue as quickly as we can and will update this space when the issue has been resolved.”
It’s unclear at this time the extent of the system error, or when a resolution is expected.
Sept. 28 – 8 a.m.
All courses have been restored to D2L. An updated message reads “UPDATE (4:45am): Courses and enrollments have been restored in D2L.
Sept. 28 – 12:10 p.m.
DePaul Information Services sent out an email with more information about the D2L error.
“Restored courses may still be missing groups and group work submissions, and CTL (Center for Teaching and Learning) is working with D2L to get these restored. We believe all other course content and course work has been restored.”
The email also adds that “Faculty with near-term deadlines set in D2L are advised to take into consideration that the system was unavailable for a 12-hour period at the time when many students may have been trying to take quizzes, complete assessments, or catch up on course work.”
This is an ongoing story.
