I have been into K-pop since early 2021, and it is my favorite music genre. Now I know I’m just a white girl, and people ask, “Why do you like K-pop when you don’t know the lyrics?” For me, that’s not the point. I love the background music to all of the songs I like, and that’s what got me into K-pop. Also, there’s something called Google where you can look up lyrics and see what they mean in English. Anyways, while many people do talk about K-pop nowadays, I feel like there are still many people who could get into K-pop.
“Don’t Call Me” by SHINee
This is the first ever song that got me into K-pop. I was scrolling through TikTok one day and saw this song pop up as an ad. The chorus was playing and I was like, “wait a second, this is kind of good!” So I decided to watch the music video and I fell in love. I told myself this would be the only K-pop group I liked, but here I am three years later. I actively listen to around five different K-pop groups. To be honest, I only listened to this song for a few days when I first found out about it.
“Hello Future” by NCT Dream
This song came out just a few weeks after I graduated high school. My senior year was one of the hardest years of my life, and hearing this song made me optimistic that life will get better. It was in my top 10 most streamed songs in 2021 and 2022. I’ve seen it live twice and it always makes me cry (in a good way). It starts off with a bang and ends with a bang, and I love it. The vocals, the rapping, just everything about it is *chefs kiss*.
“Long Flight” by Taeyong
I know I’m going to sound crazy to most people, but I only have two liked songs on Spotify. One of those is this song. I listen to it whenever I’m feeling down. Not going to lie, I forgot that liked songs were a thing for a while, which is why I only have two. Taeyong is one of my favorite K-pop idols and his songs always comfort me. He has a very distinctive voice, which I love, and I always get excited when he releases new songs. This was the first ever solo song he released, and I love listening to it.
“Golden Hour” by Mark
Calling all Gordon Ramsay fans! No joke, Mark talks about Gordon Ramsay in this song. There’s this joke where he cannot cook eggs, and he talks about it in this song. “I don’t know how to make eggs, but that I do not stress. ‘Cause I’ve never been hungry.” He ate with that line, not going to lie. Whenever this song comes on shuffle, I get so excited. Something about this song just makes me feel like I’m the coolest person to ever walk the planet. I just love the beat and the lyrics are so funny.
“Siren” by P1Harmony
I have to end this DeJamz with a banger! This song got me into P1Harmony and they are one of my favorite K-pop groups. This was their debut song and they came into the K-pop world with a bang. I love basically every song that they’ve come out with since then, and it’s rare when I find an artist that I love every song from. This song always pumps me up for the day and I love listening to it. If you’re into songs that hype you up, you should definitely listen to this song.
