Award-winning Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny, also known as Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, is headlining this year’s Super Bowl halftime show. Martínez Ocasio has been vocal about his opposition to President Donald Trump’s policies, which prompted controversy from some of Trump’s supporters after Martinez Ocasio was selected. Despite that, the decision has garnered global attention and resulted in an increase in his music’s streams.
Here are La DePaulia’s staff predictions for the Super Bowl halftime show.
Sofia Joseph: My prediction is that Bad Bunny will bring out a close friend or relative and have them sit with him on the white plastic chairs from the “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” album cover while he sings his song, “TURiSTA.” To me, the chairs represent nostalgia and family gatherings. By sitting in the chairs, he is alluding to the album’s themes of Puerto Ricans reclaiming their island.

Láura Vazquez David: My prediction is that Bad Bunny will perform “Safaera” and will invite Jowell y Randy to join him on stage. The iconic track is guaranteed to get everyone dancing. “Safaera” is one of the standout songs from his album “YHLQMDLG” (Yo hago lo que me da la gana, or I Do Whatever I Want). I chose a shark to represent this song because of one of its most memorable lines: “Mami, ¿qué tú quieres? Aquí llegó tu tiburón” (“Baby, what do you want? Here comes your shark”).

Isabella Siemaszko: The one thing we know about the Super Bowl is that Stefon Diggs, Patriots wide receiver and rapper Cardi B’s boyfriend, is expected to play. I predict that at halftime, Cardi B will make her way down from the stands to take his place on the field, where she’ll join Bad Bunny for a performance of their hit song, “I Like It.” I also think that before that happens, Bad Bunny will invite the audience into his world by opening with “VOY A LLeVARTE PA PR.” The song paints a vibrant picture of a fun night out in Puerto Rico and highlights the island’s identity, culture and strong connection to reggaeton.

Cris Salas: Bad Bunny will open with a high energy song like “EoO” to hook everyone right away. I think he will bring out another Puerto Rican artist, like Marc Anthony, to express his Puerto Rican identity. He will end up wearing a bold statement piece in his performance. It’s rumored that he’s going to wear a dress, and I think there’s a great possibility that he will follow through with that. Lastly, I think that Sapo Concho will make an appearance on the jumbotron, similar to when he did his residency in Puerto Rico.

Cristian Nuñez (contributing writer): My prediction for Bad Bunny is that J. Balvin will make an appearance at the show. Bad Bunny and J. Balvin made appearances during the Shakira and Jennifer Lopez halftime show in 2020. I also believe the “Casita” or the house from his current tour will serve as the stage. I wouldn’t be surprised if he performs “VOY A LLeVARTE PA PR” or if he ends the show with his song “EoO.”
