SGA is diving into spring elections next week after navigating shifts in leadership following the vice president’s resignation earlier this month. Students can cast their ballots Monday, May 4, through Friday, May 8. Those interested in running can still sign up as a write-in candidate with this form.
The Diversity and Equity Committee is hosting four identity-themed movie nights throughout the rest of the quarter; the first is the Arab Heritage Movie Night taking place Thursday, April 30.
Chief of staff steps in after VP resigns
Former SGA vice president Ahmad Barakat resigned from his position April 8, saying he is exploring opportunities with the Office of Institutional Equity and Thriving in collaboration with the Office of The President. Barakat spearheaded the Displaced Students Program during his time as a representative and as vice president.
“This is not a decision I make lightly, but one that I find beneficial to the students of whom I advocate for,” Barakat said in his resignation letter obtained by The DePaulia.
SGA President Prince Priyanshu confirmed the resignation April 22 but declined to comment further.
Since Barakat’s departure, chief of staff Tinbit Dogisso has led SGA’s weekly general body meetings.

SGA to consolidate its regulatory documents
Priyanshu announced during cabinet reports April 22 that SGA will consolidate its four main regulatory documents by the end of the academic year. SGA has a constitution, a code, Election Operations Board bylaws and Judicial Board bylaws.
“There’s four documents, and they’re messy, so we’re going to be consolidating those and make sure the next student government has the best possible consolidated reference and not have issues moving forward,” Priyanshu said.
New Student Sustainability Committee looking for members
Chair of campus affairs Peyton Deck is looking for students to join the new Student Sustainability Committee; the committee was created in partnership with Just DePaul, part of the Division of Mission and Ministry. Students can fill out this form to show their interest in joining the committee, according to SGA’s Instagram.
Deck said she created the committee to fill gaps that came as a result of the 2024 restructuring, which eliminated SGA positions tasked with solely focusing on campus sustainability.
“My hope is that the establishment of the Student Sustainability Committee ensures that regardless of the capacity of my successors to focus on sustainability on campus, there will always be an SGA member charged with chairing the Student Sustainability Committee and working to give momentum to sustainable initiatives in SGA,” Deck said.
