Shapiro promoted to Blue Demon video coordinator
After paying his dues, a now former DePaul University graduate assistant has received a big promotion.
On Thursday, DePaul Blue Demon head basketball coach Dave Leitao announced his decision to promote Lucas Shapiro to the role of video coordinator where he’ll assist with video breakdown of games and practices and help the coaching staff scout opponents.
“Lucas has worked tirelessly for our program the last two years while completing his graduate degree,” Leitao said via a press release from the DePaul athletic department. “We’re excited to be able to keep him with the program in this new role as he helps our team on a day-to-day basis with video preparation and digital media throughout the year.”
Shapiro was a graduate assistant with DePaul’s basketball program for the last two seasons. During his undergraduate years, he was a four-year student manager for the University of Missouri Tigers basketball team. For two of those years, Leitao was an assistant coach with Missouri.
In addition to his managerial and graduate assistant gigs at Missouri and DePaul respectively, Shapiro has done video analysis, scouting reports, and other work with ESPN Boston, Dime Magazine, Complex Magazine, the Under Armor Association, and Elevate Hoops among other companies and publications.
Shapiro replaces Baba Diallo who accepted an assistant coaching job with Central Connecticut State University in mid-July. Diallo spent three seasons with the Blue Demons including one in the video coordinator role.
