DePaul student stabbed, robbed near Lincoln Park campus early Saturday morning
Updated with more information from DePaul Administration
A DePaul student was stabbed last night on the 900 block of West Webster Avenue around 3 a.m., according to a report published by Public Safety.
The student, 19, was approached by two men who then demanded his valuables before one of the offenders stabbed the victim and fled with his property.
“They followed him outside, approached him, demanded his stuff and proceeded to punch him,” said a Chicago Police Department spokesperson. “Then the second attacker stabbed him under the left buttock with an unknown cutting instrument.”
The two attackers then were able to get the victim’s wallet and ran off.
The victim was later picked up by police two blocks west.
The student was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and is in good condition, the CPD spokesperson confirmed to The DePaulia.
According to the police spokesperson, the victim was only able to give a vague description of the two assailants.
“He just said there were two suspects roughly 5’10”, 170 [pounds],” the spokesperson said. DePaul’s report did not include descriptions of the suspects.
As of Sunday, no arrests have been made and Area Three detectives are still investigating.
Eugene L. Zdziarski, II, vice president of DePaul Student Affairs and Bob Wachowski, director of Public Safety, briefed the DePaul community on the stabbing in an email sent Saturday afternoon.
“In light of the recent criminal activity on and around our campuses, DePaul Public Safety officers will be on heightened alert during their campus patrols,” the email read.
“Though this incident did not occur on campus, it and others that have occurred recently on and around our Loop and Lincoln Park campuses raise important concerns for our university community,” it read, adding that DePaul provides a safety escort service within the confines of the Lincoln Park campus.
At this time, the student’s exact condition is not known, although Zdziarski and Wachowski noted “DePaul’s Student Affairs staff is providing all possible support to the student and their family.”
