St. Vincent’s DeJamz

St.+Vincents+DeJamz

Music blasts from the living room as I hear my mom singing obnoxiously loud. Her singing gets closer and closer with the second. Mind you, I was just asleep, but I’m not anymore, especially after she slams into the door singing with a broom handle as a microphone. “Get up, sweetie, it’s cleaning time!” My mom yells then leaves the door wide open as she glides off with her broom. With spring showers finally hitting, tulips being planted in the quad and trees beginning to blossom at last, it calls for spring cleaning time. As you dance with your broom or mop and sing into your duster this spring, sing along to some of these upbeat songs that will make you actually want to clean.

“Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)” by Stevie Wonder

When I say my mom barged in the door in the morning, it was either to some loud country music or to this song. This song will make me hop out of bed faster than when you wake up late for a class. It will for sure fuel your cleaning day, especially if you don’t have any motivation to start. Let your dancing feet carry you to the cleaning supplies and get to work.

“You Make Me Feel So Young” by Michael Buble

This song never fails to make me break out into song. Without fail, this song will have me sliding across wood floors in my socks in the morning, and I am not a morning person. This takes me back to when I was little, washing the windows and glass doors with my dad as he made silly faces at me through the outside of the glass door.

“Olivia” by One Direction

Usually this song is one that I would blast as I’m flying down a highway with my windows open, but it always makes me forget what I’m doing — which is why it’s perfect for cleaning. You never have to focus on the actual task again, just listen to Harry Styles’ voice singing about a chick named “Olivia” and get all that grime and nastiness off your surfaces. Honestly, listen to this when you clean your stove or your microwave.

“Brown Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison

This song is more of a chill option for when you’re trying to focus on something. It’s more background vibes, but it’s perfect for when you’re trying to organize things. The lyrics are practically ingrained in my head so it’s easy to sing along without paying attention. This would be ideal for going through your closet to find out what to and what not to get rid of.

“Summer of ‘69” by Bryan Adams

Ending with a banger, of course. This song will give you the final push you need to finish out your spring cleaning. Blast this song, I beg of you. It’ll take you to a different world. This song is perfect for giving you the motivation to finally clean that shower you’ve been avoiding all day.
