After cancelling the first day of winter quarter classes, DePaul University will reopen tomorrow, Jan. 7, since campus properties are in good condition to open. The university closed campuses and cancelled classes due to travel delays, dangerous road conditions, heavy snowfall and subzero temperatures that closed all Chicago area schools today.

The DePaul Center and the Daley Building on the Loop Campus will remain open today, but all other Loop Campus buildings, and the DePaul offices and classrooms will be closed, Janis said.

“We continue to do touch-ups on sidewalks, cross walks and parking lots and are continuing to work today with our excavation contractor to haul and dump quantities of built-up snow from certain areas to our empty lots,” Bob Janis, vice president of facility operations, said.

Lincoln Park street parking is “very limited” and parking lots are “nearly as clean as they can be with minimal capacity loss,” Janis said. Discounted parking with a DePaul ID is available at the Clifton Parking Deck.

DePaul decided to cancel classes after hearing from many students, faculty and staff who were having problems getting back to Chicago due to flight and train cancelations and dangerous roadways, Interim Provost Patricia O’Donoghue said.

O’Donoghue advised that students check with their professors to learn what arrangements will be made for making up the classes that were canceled Monday.

Residence halls, the Lincoln Park Campus Student Center and The Ray Meyer Fitness Center will remain open today until 8 p.m.
