The Dominick’s on the corner of Fullerton and Sheffield now sits empty while DePaul, Dominick’s and its parent company, Safeway, work to find a new grocer tenant to takeover the space.
The Fullerton location was one of 57 stores in Chicago that closed Saturday, Dec. 28, after Dominick’s left the Chicago market.
“We are actively working [on] this situation and hope to have something to report soon,” Carol Hughes, the director of the News and Information Bureau at DePaul, said. “The store will likely be closed for a period of time for renovations.”
The building, known as Centennial Hall, is owned by DePaul and also houses student dorms and several university offices. Many Dominick’s locations were bought by Jewel, Mariano’s and Whole Foods, but the Fullerton location remains untouched.
Crain’s Chicago Business previously reported that Whole Foods was interested in the Fullerton Dominick’s location, although there has been no official announcement from Whole Foods.
