DePaul has been following the 2012 presidential election throughout the various
debates and events that has led up to this climax: election night.
ξ
The Student Government Association (SGA) and the Student Leadership Institute (SLI)
have been working hard this quarter to encourage students to let their voice be
heard. Both groups have been present at several campus events helping first time
voters to register and answer any questions they might have throughout the process
ξ
“For most people who are at DePaul now, this is the first presidential election we’re
getting to vote in. Getting your first chance to vote for the president of the United States
is a pretty big deal.” said Sarah Rens, executive vice president of academic affairs in
SGA.
ξ
She believes that this election is a very important one for students in particular.
ξ
“Student are really concerned about the price of tuition, the price of higher education,
whether or not they could afford to get higher education [also] the economy and jobs
after college.”
ξ
DePaul Democrats and DePaul College Republicans could not be reached for
comments about their Opinions on this election.
ξ
“It’s a very important election because we have two candidates that have very different
views on how to move forward.” said Rens.
ξ
DePaul will have election night festivities tonight in Brownstones, following the election.
