Being born and raised in Puerto Rico, there isn’t a big Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, or at least one that I remember. Being Hispanic is an everyday thing. If you know me, you know I proudly identify as Puerto Rican — whether I’m teaching you slang, Spanish curse words or sharing a piece of my culture.

My heritage is something I take seriously, and I will always be proud of my roots.

As a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, here are some of my favorite Hispanic songs, straight from my Latine Cleaning playlist — perfect for those moments when you just need to feel everything and scream at the top of your lungs.

“Coleccionista de canciones” by Camila

This song is the perfect example of how I attach memories to songs. When I have a really good day, or I have something romantically interesting, I mentally attach a song to it. That way I can come back to it and remind myself how I felt at the time. Camila, a Mexican pop rock group, sings about treasuring love and memories even when time passes, similar to collecting songs or records.

“Hasta que me olvides” by Luis Miguel

Luis Miguel, known as the “Sun of México,” is one of my favorite artists for those angsty songs that make you really wipe that counter, even if it's squeaky clean. “Hasta que me olvides” is one of those songs dedicated to that one person that just doesn't want to be with you. Miguel is saying, “I’ll love you, until you forget about me.” The crazy lore is that people assume this song is about his mom, who disappeared when he was a teenager.

“Nada es para siempre” by Luis Fonsi

Latinos are known for feeling too much and exaggerating these feelings. I am the epitome of this — I feel so much it hurts. This is one of those songs that exemplifies that. Fonsi sings about having to love one’s significant other today in case they don't have tomorrow.

“Si estuviesemos juntos” by Bad Bunny

Did you really think the resident Puerto Rican journalist was not going to have some Bad Bunny? Of course not. While Bad Bunny can make a mean reggaeton song, he can also make a super sad banger, and this is it. From his first studio album, “Si estuviesemos juntos” recalls the “what could have been” trope. It's about reminiscing about a past relationship and wondering how things might have turned out if they had stayed together. “I still love you, even though I know that might f--- me up,” is one of the most realest Bad Bunny lyric and I will always scream it.

“Babysita" by Álvaro Díaz

If there is one song that will make me cry on the spot, it is “Babysita” (trust, there’s pictures and everything). Álvaro — otherwise known as Sadvarito by his fans for his sad style — has a unique way of making sad songs that will resonate with you on such a personal level.

The lyric that will always make me shed a tear is when Alvarito sings "and you were there when everything was wrong, now everything's going well for me, and I can't tell you anything.”

Because who doesn't have that one person you don't talk to anymore but think of every time something happens?
